More L.A. School Information

Based upon how many people have read my Hidden Gems post, I can see that parents in Los Angeles really need and want more school information. There were a few things I came across after writing that post that I wanted to add; I decided to do it as a separate post so as not to let the information get missed by those who have already read the original piece.

  1. There is a great, new website called The School Boards that is both a resource tool and a chat board for parents involved in all levels of the school search (they have boards not just in LA, by the case you are reading this in NY, DC, San Francisco etc.). The more parents that join this site, the better as it will allow more and more information to be shared. Registration is free...
  2. If you are looking for preschools, buy the book "How To Choose The Best Preschool For Your Child: The Ultimate Guide to Finding, Getting Into, and Preparing for Nursery School. It's an excellent resource for the search and application process; I wish I had read it when I started our school hunt! It does not provide lists of schools as it is not specific to any city or area.
  3. If you looking for preschools and haven't already done so, go back and look at my post Hidden Gems: Preschools You May Not Know as there are many, many reader comments with additional schools that have been suggested to check out.
  4. If you feel you need an extra edge for the elementary school search and can to hire someone to help you, Check out Kim Hamer's website Get Into Private School. Kim is a terrific resource and a very experienced private school consultant. She also runs a website called The Los Angeles Guide To Private Schools . You can read an interview with Kim on Beyond The Brochure.
  5. Sandy Eiges is also a well-known LA school consultant and you can read all about her on her website LA School Scout and an interview again on Beyond The Brochure.
I hope these last few posts on the school topics have helped you. Good luck with your school searches!

Thanks for reading!
